Season Review Season Three

Today CPAFC stand tall as champions of Division 7 knowing that they’re by far the best team in that league, knowing that they are Ferraris while their opposition are nothing but Ford KAs, Citron Saxos and in the case of the shambolic Social Services a 1974 lime green Reliant Robin.

The championship winning campaign kicked off with an 8 – 3 triumph over Barely Athletic with a quartet of players all kicking off the new season with a brace.   Wood, Kennedy, Cassidy and man of the match Saleem Patel all starting the season well chipping in with two goals.

The good start to the season got even better the following week with a thumping 17 – 4 victory over the abysmal Social Services who even though they tried their best crumbled under the devastating attacking play from CPAFC.   Jim “bite your legs” Boorman was outstanding in this match scoring his first ever hat trick and earning the referee’s nomination for man of the match.   James Wood also played his socks off scoring an amazing 5 goals with myself Dr Cassidy penetrating the net 4 times, Scottish wiz kid Graeme Kennedy scoring 3 times and James Caves also knocking in his first 2 of the season.

CPAFC’s increasing reputation obviously scared aware their opponents in match 3 with I C Milan failing to turn up and rewarding CPAFC a 10 – 0 default win.   Seven days passed and CPAFC continued their winning ways, this time not only stuffing the opposition but also keeping their first ever clean sheet in a 5 – 0 massacre of arch rivals A touch of class aka BMFC.   Atif Khan saved everything thrown at him with a collection of vintage stops but was pipped to the man of the match award by two-goal hero Danny Cassidy, yes me!!! The other three goals came courtesy of a Jim Boorman opener and a James Wood double.

Jim Boorman’s new found scoring touch continued to benefit the team with a 10 - 5 victory against Real Seville making CPAFC 3 points clear at the top of the league. Joint golden boot winners James “the goal machine” Wood and Graeme Kennedy both added to their tallies with a hat trick a piece but the true catalyst for the win was a brilliant man of the match performance from James Caves.

Matches couldn’t come quick enough for the inform CPAFC and 168 hours after their 10 – 5 win against Real Seville came a 7 – 5 win against OHS.   Graeme Kennedy helping himself to not only a hat trick of superb goals but also the man of the match accolade as well.

The mauling of each team in the league was complete when we completed our 7th win out of a possible 7 with a 5 – 3 scrappy win against the most athletic of dykes I have ever seen, Sporting Lesbian.

Our dominance of this league was further cemented when Barely Athletic once again collapsed at the feet of CPAFC praying for mercy.   A little mercy was shown with CPAFC only winning the game 7 – 3 but the following week against Social Services CPAFC killed off the players in a record breaking 18 – 4 rampage.   Everyone on the team getting in on the goal scoring fun.   Patel, Boorman and Caves scoring one each, Cassidy netting 4, Wood grabbing 5 and the phenomenal Kennedy striking the ball past their helpless keeper 6 times.
Another victory followed this time Fitness First being the victims of a rampant CPAFC in an 11 – 3 goal feast.

The lowest point of our season came when a slightly complacent CPAFC met A touch of class and came away as the losing side in a game which ended 3 – 2 to the team we used to call BMFC.   A weeks rest though gave CPAFC what they needed as it was back to winning ways when we met Real Seville and dominated them from start to finishing eventually winning the match in style with the score line reading 12 – 2.

The penultimate game saw CPAFC lose again but with promotion as champions already mathematically assured a 4 – 1 defeat at the hands of OHS didn’t hinder the party atmosphere surrounding CPAFC’s promotion wagon.

We finally finished off as we started and that was winning, we won 9 – 5 against Sporting Lesbian with two goals from Cassidy, 1 from Caves, and a hat trick each from the golden boot sharing duo Kennedy and Wood.

And that wraps up the season, a season where we grew from being relatively unknowns to being a footballing force feared throughout the land, a season that brought us our highest ever galacticos position, our first ever league trophy, plenty of ups and a few downs.   A season where passions ran high and we sweat by the bucket load.   A season where we sadly said goodbye to the retiring Simon Binns but a season where we said a big hello to Division 6.

Bring it on!!!!
