MATCH 1

Giant Robot 9 - 8 CPAFC

Hey guys

Disappointment is the word of the day today!!!

For a season that started with such promise we have ended our first match with a loss. However it was not a bad performance. We were just beaten by one goal and some unlucky circumstances. (maybe a bit of match fitness, some bad shots, a couple of errors at the back, a lack of structure, a bad ref.... but who's making excuses).

Anyway the point is although the result was not what we wanted the performance was not that bad, and for me there were a lot of positives. We showed aggression in the tackles and in our general desire (none more than woody who decided to take over from somo as the CPAFC hard man) and this definitely put fear into the opposition.

We shouldn't let one defeat dishearten us, especially looking at other results from the night. There were surprising results and mean that we should be confident of climbing up the table should a few results go our way.

lets put the loss last night behind us and look forward to next week and Liverpool pensioners.

this seasons stats are below and a mention must be made for 5 goal machine wood, who has in 2 matches has gone level or overtake most of the CPAFC squad on the all time chart and has set a target for a few others for this season.

MATCH TWO

CPAFC 4 - 2 Liverpool Pensioners

Hey guys I apologise for the delay in match report ( I know they are the highlight of a Wednesday) but I have been away!!!

Well our first victory of the new season and it puts us up to 4th (our highest ever position in the league).

We played a lot better this week and need to continue this form on for the coming weeks. Next week is BMFC, and if we can beat them we would go 2nd in the league and really show that we are serious about this season!!!!

We had a good game again with a few stand out performances (mainly from our fan Simon the model) and man of the match Jim (about time).
We know we have the team to win this and even the ref (even though he was blind and possible had been consulting with puff the magic dragon before the match) said we had improved!!!!!

it's still early on this season but we need to start a bit of a run of form going so we can get to the top of the league and hopefully remain there!!!

come on CPAFC

MATCH 3

CPAFC 8 - 6 BMFC

Hey my CPAFC buddies.

Congratulations everyone we are in our highest ever league position of 2nd place!!!!!!!!

In the great rain of 2005 we struggled on to return to GE victorious, having shown that we are a team to be respected. The game was not exactly pretty and we certainly did not play with any of the flair that we have done in the past, but I believe we are to scared of making a few mistakes and are being too cautious at the moment.

Yes we have ground out results in the last 2 matches and we are showing a lot more character then last season, which is a good thing. After all look at our position in the league. It speaks for itself. However we still need to relax and enjoy the matches. There are a lot of goals in this team (and that's not including woody) and we should all be a little happier to play our own game. I really hope we can get back to the CPAFC mentality of fun anf football and still be successful in the league!!!!

Anyway back to last nights performance, which was the first ever back to back victories we have had and shows an added maturity to the teams play. We have really given ourselves a good start top this season and a base from which to push for the title (or at least promotion).

The performances were very up and down last night and we never really got into a flow (partly as there were so many of us and we were not on the pitch as much as any of us would have liked). At times we seemed to actually be playing well but at other times we were all over the place and we were just running around like 'headless chickens' (not a cure for bird flu as Danny told me it was). We have a good run of games coming up now where we can really build up a good points total if we play as we know we can. Next Tuesday we have a tough match against Dynamic 5 (a team who have beaten us both times we have played, (7 - 4) and (9 - 7)). But then we have 2 matches against lower opposition who are both struggling this season, Finland cod hunters and not so good fellows. Hopefully if we play well in these matches then we can build up an excellent points tally not only taking us past last lessons total but also forcing us up the league to 1st place??!!

Well done everyone and congratulations but we cannot rest until we are the best in Leeds!!!!

Come on CPAFC!!!!!

James (Who needs Cantona when you've got me) Caves

MATCH 4

CPAFC 6 - 3 Dynamic 5

Arsenal's 49 game unbeaten run gets closer as the mighty CPAFC triumph again.

With a controlled performance, not many rash moves and some consistent play we beat Dynamic 5
6-3.

Once again Wood was the leading scorer with another 4 goal haul, at this rate he'll be the all-time
leading scorer in about 2 games!! Myself and Caves chipped in with our weekly goals to confirm the victory.

Man of the Match was Saleem 'The Boss' Patel, marshalling the team, shouting from the sidelines and
also controversially having a goal disallowed where the referee thought he had burst the net when
indeed the ball crept in at the near post.

We're still 2nd on goal difference ahead of BMFC and 3 points behind Giant Robot.
We play Finland Cod Hunters next week who are bottom of the league but they ran Robot close this week
and drew with Dynamic 5 last week so we're still expecting a tough game.

MATCH 8

CPAFC 8 - 5 Giant Robot

Guys, congratulations

We finally beat our closest rivals - Giant Robot!!!!!
As the well known saying goes, 4th time lucky. But there was nothing lucky about that performance. It was pure grit and determination that won us that match.

We made that match a lot harder for ourselves than we needed to but I think that was down to nerves!!!! We never really developed any flow to the game and only seemed comfortable in the last 2 minutes when we had developed a couple of goals lead. However that should not be taken as a negative. Both sides knew the importance of this match and there was a lot of passion out there. Win this and we will more than likely be top of the league at Christmas (and strengthen our chances of winning the league). Lose and we were down the league and struggling to keep pace with the top 2 (in the immediate future at least), but we didn't need to worry, because the new harder Cpafc do not crack like last season.

We could have got our heads down at a couple points in the game, when they came from behind to lead 2-1 or when they scored the goal that never was, but we didn't. We showed that we have come a long way mentally last night as well and kept fighting!!! The last 10 minutes of that match was possibly the most determined I have ever seen the team. We were going in hard for all our challenges and were winning more than our fair share. Again something that this team was previously lacking.

Last week may have been our toughest match but last night was the most important win for us. We knew that before we started and now it is out of the way we can look forward to the Christmas break knowing we have done all that we can!!!! That is not an excuses to over indulge this yuletide though!!! I expect match fit players for our next game on the 2nd January 2006 (as long as we have a no-show next Tuesday) against BMFC.

Congratulations to you all for and excellent first half of the season.
Don't forget the CPAFC night out on Friday. Were meeting 8 for 8:30, or whenever you get there really, at Amaans.
Dress is smart casual, as we may be going into town after the meal (CPAFC shirts are optional)

MATCH 10

BMFC 2 - 1 CPAFC

All good things come to an end, the majestic Manchester United team of the nineties, Patrick Viera's love affair with Arsenal and sadly last night CPAFC's winning streak.   We came crashing down to reality in a game plagued by unfit players, nervous touches and the absence of Senor Wood.   We are not however a one man team, in Atif we have by far the greatest goalkeeper in the league, in defence Saleem is our Alessandro Costacurta, in midfield James Caves can strike the ball in a way Paul Scholes would be proud and upfront Graeme Kenndy is a lethal finisher.   This team oozes out talent from every orifice and last night we just didn't find the sparkle that makes CPAFC great.

The game was the lowest ever scoring game that CPAFC have ever been involved in with just the 3 goals and just the one coming our way.   We were way off the pace and you could visibly see the Christmas fatigue in our players, we were second to every ball and second best in challenges.

Atif between the posts played his usual outstanding best with flashes of Gordon Banks in his saves, this performance earned him the man of the match award and was well deserved.   At the back Jim and Saleem contained the opposition's attacking play well with blocks, tackles and meaty challenges and in midfield everything James Caves touched was golden with inch perfect passes and another hungry display.   Where we lacked confidence last night was in the final third, we never really threatened them and we could never find that thunderous strike instead settling for pea rolling shots that failed to trouble the keeper.   The one chance that we did convert came courtesy of James Caves, picking the ball up from midfield beating his man with a sly dummy and penetrating the opposition net with a rocket of a shot.   This goal was vintage James Caves and showed us all that Woody is not the only one who can score.

Graeme Kennedy was suffering from a hogmanay hangover and didn't seem to find is feet against a team he has punished so heavily in the past, I'm confident however that our Scottish player of the year will find his form again and start pinging them in from the acute angles he was scoring from last season.   They took their chances better nicking two goals compared to our measly one.

We as a team need to start playing with the belief and drive that has seen us beat teams like BMFC and Giant Robot, individually I believe we are for superior to any other team in this league and we just need to start clicking as a unit.   The title is not out of our reach we are only 3 points off the pace and BMFC need to go places like Giant Robot and Elite and get results and I tell you one thing I'd love it, I'd love it if we beat them!!!! (Spot the Kevin Keegan quote!)

Lets put last night behind us and focus on the next game against Dynamic 5, lets join together as a team, enjoy our football, try our best, take our chances and win!!!

ps Well done to Saleem who last night took my crown as CPAFC cuppy champion

MATCH 12

CPAFC 5 - 2 Finland Cod Hunters

Congratulations Guys

After our tough match last night we are finally back to winning ways and just in time.
Thanks to a few surprising results in the league we are still in an excellent situation and with 2 games to go it is kind of in our own hands if we claim the champions position.
We are however effectively promoted
That's right unless there are some even wilder results we will be playing in division 7 in 3 weeks time!!!!!

We are currently 6 points clear of giant robot with a 24 goal difference better off than them.
Which means even if we lose both our matches and they win both of theirs we will go up on goal difference unless they score loads of goals or we Atif lets in even more!!!!

Other possible scenarios are robot lose so we are definitely up, but that thenmakes things harder to go top
or If robot beat BMFC (and we beat not so good fellows) we would be 2 points clear at the top of the table with one game to go.
so we would only need a draw with elite (or better) to be crowned champions!!
BMFC have a tough last match as well so we could even lose to elite and be top.

Lets just see how it all pans out next week though and then we know what we have to do in our last match!!!

As for last night it was an excellent return to winning ways. There are still a few of the gremlins in the system and there is no way we are match fit so we really do need to start playing on Thursdays again. However there was a marked improvement in the play as a whole and our defensive work was at a higher standard than it has been for weeks.

We had a couple of players returning aswell and a storming performance by man of the match (I'm in a TV advert for sofas), hat-trick hero, and model professional seemed to be the difference we have been missing.

it's in our hands now so lets take the championship

CPAFC till I die

James

MATCH 13

Not So Goodfellows 3 - 7 CPAFC

CPAFC may like to win in style but they will hardly be complaining at this more laboured success. Nothing was needed from the players but blood, sweat, patience and a dose of good fortune to see off a dogged Not So Good Fellows.

The former whipping boys of the league were strengthed by the two new players that they had obviously picked up cheap in the January sales.   No longer did they lie down and let us walk all over them but instead put up a good fight and matched us for most of the match.

It was only when James Wood opened the scoring that CPAFC began to break down their opponents. The Not so Good fellows defended in numbers and made no serious attempt to score, but there was also a lack of incisiveness and width to much of CPAFC’s first half play, this all changed in the second thanks to the engine and enthusiasm of Tuesday night’s Kate Moss Simon Binns.   His running ability, never say die attitude and general nuisance ness gave their defence a headache and when the winger burst down the middle he gave a contender for goal of the season with his superbly taken first time left footed strike.   Then it was time for Woody to get back into the game when Graeme Kennedy tricked his way around the opposition defence on the left before cutting an acute pass into the path of Wood who, having again made a darting run to the near post, scooped the ball over the on rushing keeper.

This goal was followed by another fine strike from Woody and also a brace from myself which included a very rare left footed goal!   Thanks goes to Graeme who assisted both goals with what can only be described as sublime passes.

Jim Boorman was unlucky to add to his goal tally for the season with a low shot where the keeper was beaten but the woodwork kept it out.   Saleem at the back was his usual commanding self and this season’s ever present Mr James Caves played brilliantly again.   The game also featured an own goal which has apparently been claimed by Atif which is a bit daft as he was 30 foot away from the ball at time but o well lets give him the glory he wants.

Next week is our final game of the season with promotion already guaranteed, the championship title is still not mathematically impossible but it would take an unlikely slip up from league leaders BMFC for us to be crowned winners.   Let’s just enjoy the game next week and be happy that we are up! The promotion party starts next week with us all cramming into Atif’s Honda for a victory parade through the streets! Then its hard graft during the 6 days of pre season till Division 7 becomes our home!!!!

MATCH 14

CPAFC 18 - 2 Elite

Hey my fellow CPAFC chums

Last night was the greatest result in the history of CPAFC!!!!!! 18 - 2 against Elite will go down in folk law and is a score line we may find hard to beat. But I am sure next season in division 7 we will have a go.

Thats right next week we ply   our trade in the dizy heights of division 7 and begin to play earlier in the evening. I know this may disrupte a few peoples preparations each week but it should aid our keeper as there will be a little more sunlight   around in the coming months. Mind you by the time that matters we may be in division 6????

We had an excellent season and capped it off with a brillient performance. Alright it was an under-strength Elite side and their keeper made danny look good between the posts but we played a flowing and relaxed match and were always in control.

We saw passion and commitment in our tackles and accuracy and skill with our passes. Ferocity in our shots and most importantly confidence and belief. This should be the perfect pick up we needed just before entering the new season and finally we started to look like our old selves. Lets just see if we can build a bit of a run up like we did before xmas.
Khanny as ever pulled out some wonder stops and really frustrated the opposition. However having shaved his head he obviously believes he now a 'proper-hardman' almost getting sent off for an exchange with the ref that would have distressed any small children in the area and the squaring up to one of the elite players!!!!! There were a hat-trick of hat-trick heros with si, danny and i all grabbing 3 goals each and woody popped up with 7, Thats right 7!!!!!! Kennedy chipped in with a brace and along with some excellnt defensive work Mr Boorman was unluck not to get a goal himself.

This was our best peformance of 2006 and showed that we can play some really good stuff.

I am really looking forward to the new challenges of next season and as soon as we know what time and who the oppostion are we will spread the word.
However I am looking forward to the awards night even more
hope to see you all there.

Mr Caves
James Caves scored the only goal of the game for CPAFC
